My top five sounds of Ho Chi Minh City

1: The whining engines of the ubiquitous Honda 110s and Vespas, swarming down a congested street near you.

2: The cock-a-doodle-doos of the city's magnificent chickens which strut around the dusty pavements (or, in sadder cases, stand in their tiny wire-mesh street cages).

3: The bleating warning horns of the cars and motorbikes as they jostle and swerve at every intersection.

4: The V-pop blaring from a kiosk selling lottery tickets (or was it theatre tickets?) near our hotel.

5: The recorded messages playing from the tiny old-fashioned handle-bar-mounted speakers of the bicycle food vendors.

(Meanwhile, for people who still insist on visuals to go with their audio, some HCMC images here).
