The race of discovery, Podcast #166 (May 2019)

"The world will note that the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, a military base ...".

Thus spake Harry Truman, three days after the first ever use of an atomic bomb, avoiding mention of the fact that of the 70,000 people immediately killed at this "military base" in Japan fewer than 10% were actually members of the military. The dead were not soldiers - but non-combatant Japanese people (including thousands of children), and Korean slave labourers. But maybe this - the mass killing, the slippery presidential "explanation" - was all alright anyway because it was done "in order to save the lives of thousands and thousands of young Americans". Not just any lives, but young American ones. And also, for good measure, we needed to remember that Japan had attacked at Pearl Harbour and during the war their soldiers had executed American POWs. They had it coming ... And on that curdled note, dear reader, welcome to Niluccio on noise's podcast #166, which kicks off with Mr Truman's voice of reason and then ... goes even further downhill from there. It's not the usual way to introduce 76 minutes of music, but then again maybe it ought to be. Music belongs in the real world as well as in the "fantasy" world of the dance floor. Pleasure and escapism are perfectly OK, but so is grim reality and there can be music to accompany - or conjure up - that as well. ("This is the real thing ..."). Or thus spake Niluccio. So yes, check it out. Start listening to this podcast right now. Zip through it. Get going! It's your own musical race of discovery ...
