The inherent uncertainty, Podcast #180 (July 2020)
"I'm aged 72 now and I still like this music ... memories!". Skip down any YouTube comment thread and almost straight away you find stuff like this. It's thoroughly depressing. People banging on about how much "better" music was when they were in their twenties and how they "feel sorry" for young people now. For real! The other day, on a thread for a Specials song someone had said, "Let's go proper England", which is about as boneheaded a remark as you could ever imagine. "Let's go proper Jamaica", more like. And anyway, bonehead, leave that "proper" out of it, with it's "I know what's what, this is the real stuff", essentialist thinking. Proper stupid. Yes, just thought I'd get that off my chest (not that I ever will ...). My philosophy, as Black Mekon like to say, is to destroy nostalgia, and with that uplifting thought I give you ... the latest Niluccio on noise podcast! Will you like it? Do I like it? Who knows? Oh, the agonising. The tormenting doubt. The inherent uncertainty ...
