Hospitalisation and mortality, Podcast #186 (Jan 2021)
Call me gloomy - but I think it's clear by now that coronavirus is a harbinger of things to come. There's going to be more animal-to-human disease, more pandemic, more people sacrificed because of governments scrambling to preserve private wealth rather than public life. Perhaps I'm a pessimist (I am), but it seems to me almost inevitable that if we clear enough forests in places like the Central African Republic or Borneo, sooner or later we'll trigger a disease virulent enough to kill all of humanity before the pharmaceutical companies have worked out how to combat/monetise the new virus. Yep, I firmly believe we're going down. A few more centuries (tops) and it'll be all over. Which will be a huge relief for the majority of the species on the planet. But, for some time yet, it looks like there'll be human life on earth and accordingly there will be music on earth - so, here's podcast #186 to while away the time before the final extinction. It's got a suitably uplifting title - hospitalisation and mortality ...
