You call this podcasting?, Podcast #232 (Nov 2024)

Many years ago I did a viva voce examination, a near-disaster that included me almost getting up and walking out and therefore blowing any chance of getting through this horrible little process. Maybe I should have done? It's not like the resulting award-accolade thing has had any kind of positive effect on my never-knowingly-successful life. Anyway, yeah man, viva voce. Live sound, a living voice. Even the best instrumental music usually benefits from the addition of vocals and maybe this might also apply - might even apply - to these very podcasts, the Niluccio on noise series? Hmm, revolutionary. Since I started doing these monthly podcasts (so-called) a mere 20 years ago, I've never once indulged in any trace of pseudo-DJing. Nope, none of that Smashie 'n' Nicie stuff for me. Nor the modern version, with cool people coolly intoning in the mix during their online radio shows. A while back, a work acquantaince arranged for me to do a couple of shows for the now-defunct 199 Radio and I virtually recoiled in horror when he said "Do you need a mic?" as I was setting up my gear in the staton's little cubbyhole broadcasting room. Gulp, no, no thanks. But hey, maybe I was wrong? Instead of avoiding this perhaps I should - finally - be embracing it. Anyway, a few months ago a friend half-suggested I should start doing some er, actual podcast-style intros on my pretend-podcasts. No doubt he was joking or having his little bit of fun at my expense, but ... too late! I've dived in. So welcome, listeners, to the very first Niluccio on noise podcast to feature my squeaky little voice. If it's a success (though who's to judge ...?) I'll be doing this more often. Most likely, though, the reaction will be along the lines of, "You call this podcasting?" ...
