You’d be in jail, Podcast #182 (Sept 2020)
If there could ever be a soundtrack for the year 2020 it would presumably sound pretty terrifying. Never mind your death metal or your blast of grindcore malevolence. To do justice to this car-crash of a year you'd have to weave in some of its truly disturbing sounds - a snatch of Matt Hancock's fake laughter during one his 23,000 media interviews; the scream of an ambulance siren carrying a seriously-ill person to an under-equipped, poorly-staffed hospital; the pent-up anger of a "liberty-loving" bloke in a supermarket aisle spoiling for a fight over being asked by a nervous 19-year-old assistant to please wear a face-mask ... You get the picture. Not exactly ambient sounds. No, what collection of music could ever do justice to all that? (None, that's the answer. None). So, though I can't compete with reality - all the misery, all the manufactured jollity - I can at least throw out a few compilations which provide a moment or two of relief from the mortal terrors of 2020. Compilations which, like this new Niluccio on noise monthly podcast, also allow a little of that reality to seep back in.What, you may now be wondering, is that idiot Niluccio going on about? Mortal terrors? Reality seeping back in? Yeah, I may finally have lost my mind altogether. It's not impossible. But don't ... get upset with me. And don't come round to my flat and threaten me with violence or try to steal all my music. Why not? Because if you do that it wouldn't be long before you'd be in jail ...
