Another statue falls, Dubpod #30 (June 2020)
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The worthies of old. Esteemed gents in powdered wigs, fine frock coats, benefactors all. Also slave traders. Or those with an "interest" in sugar. "Trade" in the "West Indies". Turning a blind eye to kidnapping, whipping, branding, rape, murder ... but also, very generously, donating money to found a "poor school" or a hospital. Kind gestures and legacies secured. For a century or two ... Well, these 75 minutes of dub/roots/ska are, in their own way, freedom sounds. Music to listen to as history bursts back into life and old icons are toppled. As another statue falls ...
